Hunqz review (2026): biggest gay inventory, weakest verification

Hunqz has the two things a gay client in the Netherlands actually wants — the largest gay-escort inventory and an interface that works in Dutch — and it earns a 5.6 overall for it. What drags that number down is the thing that matters most: verification here means another user marked a profile as someone they know in person, not that the platform ever checked an identity.

This review follows our published methodology with a score per criterion you can check yourself — and Hunqz gets full credit where it earns it, which on inventory and language is more than most.

One thing to be clear about before the scores. Our main ranking of Dutch escort sites is a general-market list. Hunqz is a gay-specific platform, judged on the same seven criteria but sitting in the niche category on our all-sites hub — it is not missing from the ranking by oversight, it is reviewed where it belongs.

What is Hunqz and who runs it?

Hunqz is the escort section of ROMEO, the gay social network most people still know as PlanetRomeo. Per Wikipedia, “sex workers and escorts can also advertise their services by creating their own profiles on the Hunqz section of the website.” So this is not a standalone escort startup — it is the paid-companionship arm bolted onto one of the oldest gay platforms in Europe.

The operator is the interesting part for a Dutch reader. ROMEO B.V. runs it from Amsterdam, and has done since September 2006; the platform itself started in Berlin in October 2002 as GayRomeo, became PlanetRomeo in 2011, and simplified to ROMEO in 2021. Twenty-plus years of gay-platform history, headquartered in the Netherlands.

That heritage explains both the strength and the gap. Hunqz inherits a large, international, multilingual gay audience — the reason its inventory and language reach beat every rival in our sweep. It also inherits a community-social model where trust was always peer-to-peer, which is exactly why its verification is so thin.

Our opinion, with the reason attached: Hunqz gives gay clients in the Netherlands the reach and the Dutch-language access nobody else does, and then leaves the single most important safety feature to other users. Reach without checks is the same trade the general Dutch market makes — it is just more visible here because the inventory is so much bigger than the alternatives.

How good is the verification?

A 3, and the low score is the honest one. There is no document check and no ID check before a profile goes live. As a long-standing review of the ROMEO platform puts it, “some profiles are verified, but only by other users — if you know one of the members in person, you can mark that on their profile.”

Read that carefully. A verified mark on Hunqz tells you that somebody claims to know this person, not that the platform confirmed who they are. That is weaker than an optional official badge and far weaker than the mandatory photo checks we have seen elsewhere. How is the mobile experience?

For a sector where most sites are a desktop layout squeezed onto a phone, having an actual maintained app is a genuine edge. The listings, ratings and preference fields all work one-handed. It is not the most modern-feeling product in the market, but it is well ahead of the dated Dutch options.

How fast is the site?

A 6. Pages are image-heavy and the underlying platform is old, so nothing feels snappy, and Hunqz sits behind a bot wall — our automated tools were blocked outright while a normal browser loaded the site fine. If it ever seems “down” for you, a plain browser usually gets through. Usable, not fast.

How transparent is pricing?

A 5. On the plus side, escorts’ own rates appear on their profiles — hourly and overnight figures, alongside ratings and service details, per the ROMEO/Hunqz product description. That is more than some directories manage.

The deduction is the platform side. What it costs to advertise, and which paid features sit behind which tier, is not laid out plainly the way the best platforms publish it. You learn the cost by using the site, and there is no single clean price page for a client to check before diving in. Rates you do see should be confirmed by message before any booking.

How good is the moderation?

A 4. There are signals in the right direction: a support channel exists for “bullying, fake accounts, or any other problem,” and Hunqz maintains a public presence on review sites. But there is no published pre-publication review, fake-account reports are a recurring theme, and with peer-only verification the moderation has very little to work with. A platform that does not check identities up front is always moderating after the fact.

Which languages does Hunqz support?

ROMEO is genuinely multilingual: beyond German and English it runs in “Portuguese, French, and many more,” and as an Amsterdam-operated platform it supports Dutch. That makes Hunqz the rare gay-escort site a Dutch speaker can use in their own language, and an easy landing for English-speaking visitors too. In a market where most adult platforms are Dutch-only or English-only, working in both is a real advantage.

How large is the Dutch inventory?

A 7, and this is why the platform exists at all. Hunqz is described as the largest gay, bi and trans escort network, with 38,000-plus registered users worldwide, and it carries a substantial Netherlands section with a real Amsterdam presence. Against the dedicated Dutch male platform — Boys4u, whose online list holds a few dozen profiles at a time — Hunqz simply has more gay listings serving the Netherlands than anything else we tested. For choice in this segment, nothing comes close.

Who is Hunqz best for?

Gay and bisexual men in the Netherlands who want the widest choice and the ability to browse and message in Dutch — for that person Hunqz is the default starting point, and its Amsterdam base and long history make it a known quantity rather than a fly-by-night directory. English-speaking visitors are well served too, since the platform reads cleanly in English.

The flaw belongs in the same sentence: you are choosing reach over verification. What are the alternatives?

If verification is what you care about most, RentMen at least has an ID-plus-selfie badge, though it is optional and, by users’ own accounts, not always worn by the right face.
