RentMen review (2026): real ID badge, optional and gameable

RentMen has the verification mechanism the Dutch market mostly lacks — a government ID plus a selfie — and that alone earns it real credit, more than most rivals can claim. It still only scores 5.1 overall, because that badge is optional, users report it worn by the wrong faces, the platform suppresses negative reviews, and the Netherlands inventory is thin.

Disclosure up front: best-escorts.nl is run by the team behind Intimate.nl, which competes for some of the same advertisers. This review follows our published methodology with a score per criterion you can check yourself, and RentMen gets full credit where it earns it — on verification, that credit is real but capped.

A point of context before the scores. Our main ranking of Dutch escort sites is a general-market list. RentMen is a gay-specific international directory, judged on the same seven criteria but placed in the niche category on our all-sites hub. It is reviewed there deliberately, not dropped from the ranking by accident.

What is RentMen and who runs it?

RentMen is a global directory of gay male escorts, rentboys and gay masseurs — its own homepage reads “Gay Male Escorts, Rentboy & Gay Massage | RentMen.” It runs across a spread of regional domains: rentmen.eu, rent.men, rentmen.es, rentmen.fr and more, plus a sister property, RentMasseur, for gay massage.

Who actually owns it is a fair question the site does not answer. Corporate ownership is not disclosed on the platform, which is a mark against it — the best platforms name their operator. What is documented is the business model, and that is straightforwardly a subscription directory: advertisers pay for placement, clients can browse free or pay for extras.

Our opinion, with the reason attached: RentMen deserves credit for building an ID check at all, because a government ID plus a selfie is more than the Dutch general market bothers with. But an optional check that users can skip, worn on profiles that clearly are not the person pictured, is verification theatre — and a review system that hides the negative entries is worse than having no reviews, because it manufactures false confidence.

How good is the verification?

A 4 — genuine credit, firmly capped. The mechanism is real: to get the ID-verified badge, an advertiser emails “a scan or picture of a government issued ID along with a CLEAR SELFIE holding up a phrase written on a piece of paper,” a process the platform adopted after the 2018 SESTA/FOSTA legislation in the US. That is a real identity check, and it is why RentMen scores above a platform like Hunqz, where verification is only ever another user vouching.

The cap comes from three problems users report directly. First, it is not mandatory — one member’s verification request was simply “removed and you don’t need to take any steps,” another renewed a membership and “they didn’t ask me for that info.” Second, it is inconsistent, triggered by account flags rather than applied to everyone. Third, and worst, it is gameable: “some guys have the flag ‘Id verified’, yet are clearly not the guy in the pictures.” A badge that appears on the wrong face is not verification you can lean on. How is the mobile experience?

A 7. RentMen is a modern, responsive site that works cleanly on a phone, with the polish you would expect from a long-running commercial directory. Nothing sector-leading, but comfortably ahead of the older Dutch platforms.

How fast is the site?

A 6. The front end is polished but image-heavy, and RentMen sits behind bot protection that blocked our automated tools while a normal browser loaded fine. Usable in everyday browsing; the deduction is for the weight and the wall.

How transparent is pricing?

A 6. The platform side is genuinely clear: RentMen publishes its membership prices openly. For advertisers, Basic is €29.95 a month and Gold €79.95, the latter adding top search placement and an ad-free profile page. For clients, browsing and contacting is free, with a Premium tier at €19.95 that adds review submission, unlimited video access and “verified member status.”

The deduction sits on the profile side, where rates are not shown uniformly and, as on most international directories, tend to appear in dollars rather than euros. You will be confirming the real figure — and often the currency — by message before any booking in the Netherlands.

How good is the moderation?

A 3, and the low mark is earned. The damning finding is the review system: RentMen “refuses to publish negative reviews of certain escorts,” which means the reviews you see are not a reliable record. Users also report deposit scams — advertisers who take a deposit and disappear — and third-party trust checks come out mixed, one scoring the domain 83/100 while others flag a “considerable likelihood” of a scam. A directory that curates its own reviews toward the positive is moderating for its advertisers, not its clients.

Which languages does RentMen support?

A 6. RentMen is genuinely multi-language across its regional domains — English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and more — which is fine for international travellers. But there is no confirmed full Dutch interface, so for a Dutch user this is effectively an English-first platform. Serviceable, not native.

How large is the Dutch inventory?

A 4. This is a global directory, and the Netherlands is a small corner of it. In our homepage sample, Amsterdam appeared only once in the escort listings — a single profile — which tells you how shallow the Dutch section runs. There are listings to be found, but nothing like the depth of a platform built for this market. For a booking outside Amsterdam, expect to come up empty.

Who is RentMen best for?

An international traveller who already uses RentMen elsewhere and wants a familiar interface with an ID badge attached — for that person, in a big global city, it can work. If the ID-plus-selfie check is the single feature you care about, RentMen at least offers it, which most of the market does not.

The flaw is unavoidable and it is the same one: the badge is optional and gameable, the reviews are curated, and for the Netherlands specifically the inventory barely exists. What are the alternatives?

For gay clients in the Netherlands who want actual choice, Hunqz — the Amsterdam-run gay platform — carries far more Dutch inventory and works in Dutch, with the honest trade-off that its verification is peer-only.
